Project Preqin Pro...
Preqin Pro is a data platform that provides access to the industry's most comprehensive private capital and hedge fund data sets. Their platform was stuck in the 90's and had some hugely bizzare bugs that needed to be completely reworked and refactored to focus on what customers wanted to do.
Old was not so gold...
The performance of the old Preqin platform was not great. There were many pain points that the users were experiencing inconsistencies in design and the overall user journey of the platform. It had a number of bugs and users would complain of the usability and how they were being navigated through the system. Preqin took on this feedback and decided to heavily invest to build a platform that would work for its users.
The idea was to be able to understand what it was that the business required which would then allow us to be able to create an experience that would be as perfect for the user.

Out with the old in with the new...
It was vital for us to understand what the requirements were and how we were going to tackle these issues as a team. The main objective for me and something I kept on top of was to make sure we had consistency running throughout designs and we would cross check each designer's new component designs.
I took charge to keep the library as tightly knitted and that any changes that would be needed to be made had gone through a sign off process so that we could keep our design system in check. It's vital that there is a dedicated member who controls the changes and new implementations of designs going into the design system we were building Preqin.
A single screen would consist of many different components, states. elements and interactions so user feedback was vital to us in order to make sure what we were doing was being validated. The ability to have users use the platform at the early stages was a great plus as we were not designing holistically but we were getting user input.
Laying the foundations is so critical in any project. Keeping the consistancy through out the product is what builds the users trust.
Below you will see some examples of how we kept our style guide in place and the thinking behind grid structure, typography, colours, and other component-based designs. You will also see some of the designs that went into the Preqin platform. This was a very large project so what your seeing is just a small snippet of the work that I was involved in.
